Many shops use BG Fuel Injection Cleaner or similar system on units as a method of cleaning the complete fuel system on LP trucks from the tank hose to the intake manifold. There are special tools required and also several points to keep in mind before you attempt to use this method:
- Do not use on a truck with no issues present, you will often do more harm than good. This is intended for a unit with running issues and/or fuel/emissions codes caused by a dirty fuel system.
- Perform a Task Hazard Analysis and use the proper PPE for the job.
- Read, understand and follow the directions for the product you are using while keeping in mind most are written for automotive gasoline applications and not LP systems so careful planning is required before proceeding.
- You may need to plan on replacing the fuel filter/s, spark plugs and O2 sensor/s AFTER you use this product as the solvents, by-products and residue will possibly damage them.
- Plan to use outdoors as the process usually generates an extreme amount of smoke from the exhaust pipe.
