Adjusting Valve Clearance

Perform adjustment when engine is hot and not running.

  1. Start engine and warm to operating temperature.
  2. Remove the rocker cover.
  3. Turn the crankshaft until number 1 cylinder is Top Dead Center (TDC).
  4. Adjust valve clearance on valves 1, 2, 3, & 5 (see diagram below).
  5. Turn the crankshaft until number 4 cylinder is Top Dead Center (TDC).
  6. Adjust valve clearance on valves 4, 6, 7, & 8 (see diagram below).
Intake & Exhaust Clearance (.38mm), .015 in.
